Small Business Owner Pat Strong Announces Campaign For State Senate
ROTTERDAM, NY – Pat Strong, a small business owner from Kingston, announced her campaign for State Senate in Rotterdam today. Pat was joined by Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara, Schenectady County Legislature Chair Tony Jasenski, Schenectady County Democratic Chair Joe Landry, and supporters as she discussed why she is running to replace current Senator George Amedore.
Pat Strong said she plans to focus on fairness issues--taxes, jobs, health care and education—as well as public safety and climate change.
“This November, we’ll be weighing in on issues that affect our daily lives, based on who we choose to represent us,” said Pat Strong, a Democrat. “As a business owner and parent, I’m concerned about the direction our nation is heading in. We need to make our schools and public spaces safer; counter the unfairness of the federal tax cuts, make health care a human right, push for more green jobs, support manufacturing, small businesses and family farms, and tackle the structural funding problems of our public schools. That’s why I’m running for State Senate.”
Strong provides technical assistance and energy education to local governments, homeowners and businesses. Her clients include the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) as well as several nonprofit organizations, engineering firms and colleges. Currently she’s helping local governments convert to LED street lights. She is the founder of the popular Made In Kingston arts expo and co-founded the Business Alliance of Kingston.
Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara said, “Pat Strong understands the issues that matter to all of us here in upstate New York, supporting our public schools, repairing local roads, replacing old water mains and creating jobs in our communities. Having served our country in the US Army Reserve, I have zero tolerance for corrupt politicians. Pat Strong is ready to help me take on the forces of corruption in Albany and make sure those who engage in corruption face harsh consequences. In the New York State Assembly, we’ve made a lot of progress so far, but there’s more to do. I’m proud to support Pat Strong for State Senate because I know together we’ll be working towards the same goals.”
Schenectady County Legislature Chair Tony Jasenski said, “Schenectady County and all of the 46th Senate District deserves a compassionate advocate for our families who will bring a common sense approach to solving the serious challenges before our state. Pat Strong is that person. She will be a strong voice for our district and bring her experience as a small businesswoman and community volunteer to help secure a bright future for our communities.”
Schenectady County Democratic Chair Joe Landry said, “The residents of Schenectady County are looking for a leader and a voice in the NYS Senate. Pat Strong -- a small business owner, mother and community activist—will be that voice. Ms. Strong understands the daily demands of running a business, managing a household, and volunteering her time to ensure that her community is a better place. Pat Strong will be a candidate who will be a voice advocating for more jobs, more money for education, better health care, and safer communities.”
The 46th Senate District includes sections of Albany and Schenectady counties, including Rotterdam, Senator Amedore’s hometown, all of Greene and Montgomery counties and a section of Ulster County including Kingston.
Ulster County Executive Mike Hein said, “Pat Strong is an accomplished local business owner with an amazing track record of getting things done. Her success has clearly been built on a deep understanding of important issues facing Ulster County residents as well as all New Yorkers and an unparalleled commitment to helping others. We are fortunate that she has chosen to run for office during this critical time in our State and nation’s history.”
Assemblyman Kevin Cahill said, "When I was first elected to the New York State Assembly, I entrusted Pat to be my ears on the ground and serve as my very first District Director. A lifetime of service, she has excelled at growing a successful business and as a civic leader in our community. In the Hudson Valley, we have a real opportunity to bring change to the New York State Senate and flip a seat that is critical to the Democrats achieving a majority. Pat will be a terrific partner in Albany to enact real reform that will benefit working families across New York State."
Kingston Mayor Steve Noble said, “Pat has built her career on a foundation of collaboration, using her unique ability to build bridges and bring people together to achieve a collective vision. Pat has been an advocate for small business owners and entrepreneurs, a champion of renewable energy, and an enduring fighter for justice and equality. Our district needs a strong leader committed to representing the needs and interests of all of our residents. Pat Courtney Strong is that leader.”
Ulster County Democratic Chairman Frank Cardinale said, “I could not be more pleased that Pat has decided to run for State Senate. More than ever, we need representatives who can bring a new energy and perspective to Albany and someone who will be more accessible to the residents of the 46th Senate District. Pat’s knowledge of the District, leadership qualities and demonstrated commitment to community service makes her uniquely qualified to serve as our next New York State Senator.“
Greene County Democratic Chairwoman Doreen Davis said, “We are thrilled that Pat Strong has decided to run for State Senate. Upstate New York needs more women joining government and offering new and exciting ideas for an economy that benefits us all. Her background and experience in the business world is exactly what we need in the NY State Senate.”
Kingston Democratic Party Chairman Joe Donaldson said, “I think Pat Strong is a incredible candidate who has represented the community on so many levels. She has business skills that will help move our state forward and at the same time is the progressive candidate the state senate needs at this time. She’ll stand up for the working citizens of New York to help make New York a great place to live.”
Ulster County Young Democrats President Ashley Dittus said, “The millennial generation is looking for leaders who will promote an economy where we can thrive and contribute. Pat is such a leader; her ability to navigate the business world while advocating for a sustainable environment is a testament to the kind of state senator she will become. I’m so excited for the voters of the 46th to get to know the dynamic person that Pat is and to send her to the New York State Senate to represent us.”
Former candidate for State Senate Jeff Collins said, “I am withdrawing from the race, endorsing Pat, and joining her team because I know that she gives us the best chance to enact change in our state. Pat is a talented person who has a deep understanding of the issues we face in the state. She has the drive, energy, and passion to connect with the voters of the district and create the level of excitement and engagement that we need to win.”
