June 21, 2018: Strong for Senate: Petitions and Parties for Pat

Dear Friend,

So much is happening at the grassroots level as my State Senate campaign gets into full swing. I’m very grateful to the individuals and organizations who have stepped up to sponsor fundraising events all around the district. Next up is our outreach in Saugerties, where an all-star host committee is organizing a fun evening to help my State Senate campaign. Hope to see you there! There are also events scheduled in Altamont, Kingston, Knox, and Woodstock with more to come. For a full list of scheduled fundraisers, click here.

What's Happening

I was happy to be able to attend the Flag Day observance at the Elks Club, Kingston. Former City of Kingston Alderman Al Teetsel presided over a large turnout of veterans, scouts and their friends and families.

Local business + support for the arts is a win/win formula. I’m proud to have spearheaded the Made In Kingston annual arts expo for the past five years. MIK has proved to be a revitalizing force in the once-struggling Midtown business community. A big shout out to Kingston High School senior Sydney Miller, who is the 2018 recipient of our Business Alliance of Kingston $1,000 scholarship for a graduating senior who will be pursuing arts or technology in college.

These young women from St. Ann Institute in Albany started a conversation with me at the recent McKownville Fire Department centennial celebration and picnic. They made me feel very welcome!

Get Involved

Petitions are available - help us get those vital signatures!

As the endorsed Democrat for Senate District 46, I’m required to collect signatures of people who belong to the Democratic party in order to get my name on the ballot in November. I'm also seeking to appear on the Working Families and Women's Equality party lines and we are collecting those signatures as well. We're getting tremendous help from Democratic town committees and other volunteers but there's more to be done. Join us for our next Petition Party, 5pm Monday, July 9. Want to help us go door-to-door in Kingston? Great! Prefer to petition your own neighborhood? No problem! (Please send us a note with your address to events@votepatstrong.com soon as possible so we can have everything ready for you.) You can even take your petition home with you. The petitioning period runs until July 10 – time is flying!

NY State Senate Republicans Leave Much Work Undone

The State Senate is adjourning for the year without voting on a host of key issues due to Republican stonewalling. Among them: gun safety, criminal justice reform, decoupling teacher evaluations from standardized tests; voting reform; women’s reproductive health protections; and universal health care. When elected, I will get things done in Albany, by standing with people like Robin Jacobowitz, a member of the Kingston Consolidated School Board, who has co-authored an important white paper on the teacher evaluations/testing issue, and Bianca Tanis, a leading activist voice among special education teachers. These are the voices I plan to bring with me to the state legislature. Help me get there!

Congratulations to Cara Jasenski Ackerley, who is celebrating a new baby AND the kickoff of her campaign for Schenectady County Clerk. The very best of luck with both!

We received some great press this week, as reporter Richard Moody of the Register Star included my comments in an article on Senate Republicans blocking attempts by Democrats to force a vote on two vitally important reproductive health bills. I’m pleased to see the Register Star take a strong stand on this critical issue. You can read the whole story here.
